Spirit Week and Awards

This past week was Red Ribbon week. I thought the themes were a little boring but I think too many parents have complained about crazy dress up days the week before Halloween. I'm not sure why Red Ribbon week has to be that week in the first place? Anyways, we still have fun with College shirt day, Team Spirit Day, Camo Day and Dress Your Best Day. I love representing our Wildcats even far away here in Texas! ;)

This baby's favorite place in the world- doesn't matter if there's even water in it or not.

We sent a package to Jordan and I thought these pictures were kinda cute. Ty's wombat kills me. And for some reason, Shaddie cannot get over Michael Jordan. So of course he wanted a picture of it so Levi helped him.

We finished up Tball season last week. The boys had a great season and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed watching them too but it'll be nice to not be at the ball park 4 nights a week for a while :)

Levi- the Yankees
Ty- the Warriors

Levi was up to bat and Ty yelled, "Come on Levi! Hit it hard! Remember everything I taught you!"

The boys had their first Awards Assembly at Negley Elementary. Ty got Perfect Attendance award and the Negley SAIL Award. Levi got Perfect Attendance and Academic Achievement award. TJ and I were impressed how the staff talked to the kids about not everyone receiving an award but they were have another chance to EARN one each quarter. I was also surprised that the teachers hugged each kid that came up on stage- that's a lot of hugs!! But the school is big on hugs and kindness. It was nice that they separated the awards by grade so we only had to sit through 1st and Kinder. But Shad and Benson still fell asleep- haha. In Texas elementary schools only go to 5th grade!! It makes me kind of dread 6th grade and sending them to middle school!!!
It's so nice how TJ's work is right down the road. He was able to meet us so easily.

Levi's Sayings:

- He read a tag on something we bought and it said made in China. He said, "Wow! Everything is made in China. They are working really hard at making stuff!!"

- We had just had a discussion on taking the Lord's name in vain. We talked about how other kids might say it but we don't. Then in his prayer he said, "Please help people to stop saying
oh my G-O-D."

- "My friend John told me to get lots of sleep tonight because we're going to have a football game during recess on Monday."

- He's ALWAYS saying, "Guess what. Let me tell you something." And then proceeds to tell me whatever it is. He probably says this 5 times a day. Shad even says it now.

- He came home from school telling me all about echolocation. They learned all about bats and I was surprised at how much he retained facts about something as tricky as echolocation!

- "Mom, I had a bad hair day when I just started my life." It's true. He's my only baby that had crazy stick-up hair that stuck out in every direction. :)

I walked into the room to see Shad inside, haha. I had just finished my workout so I then went to take a shower. Shad had shown me he could open it himself (there's a childlock thingy on it). So I didn't think twice about it. After my shower I came out and he came running to me with tears and splotchy face. He had gotten stuck in there during my whole shower and finally had gotten out by the end! I felt bad!

Shad's Sayings:

"Mom, the Titanic is in the ocean." I was like what?? How does a 2 year old know about the Titanic??? Ty and Levi were reading a Magic Treehouse book about it so I guess he got it from them.

"I want a Helman birthday." We're in Helaman in our Book of Mormon reading right now, haha.

He's progressed from saying Yah to Yetz.

The other day he had his Superman shirt on. He held his arms out like in T and said, "Superman and Jesus do this! They are both good."

This baby is standing all the time!! He's even tried to take a few steps but falls over. He just wants to walk so bad!

Trunk or Treat

Last weekend we had the ward Trunk or Treat. Since we are the Star Wars theme this year our trunk went along with that. We had the Star Wars theme music blasting from the car as well. All the little boys thought it was pretty cool. TJ was Han Solo, I was Rey, Ty was Kylo Ren, Levi was Luke Skywalker, Shad was a stormtrooper, and Benson was Yoda. I had earned a $150 gift certificate to amazon from completing this 4 hours nursing test so I bought most of their costumes- so easy! The only costume to really make was me and TJ's. His was pretty easy except for the gun holster. You could buy some but they were ridiculously expensive. So I ended up spray painting a nerf gun we already had and then I sewed/hot glued brown foam together to form the holster! It turned out pretty good and I totally made it up as I went- not even Pinterest helped me! I'm weirdly proud of it, ha. My costume I just pieced together and after one failed attempt with the right type of fabric for the draped part, it came together. I had no idea gauze was a real type of fabric sold in stores!

At the ward party, Aubrey Cline came up with Kenton (her 5 year old) to ask if he could talk to the real Rey. Kenton was beyond convinced I was THE REAL Rey. He was in absolutely awe. I think it was the coolest I ever felt in my life ;) It was like I was a celebrity or a character in Disneyland. He asked me how I made my movies and that he loves them and thinks I am awesome. If I ever need a self esteem boost, I'll just dress up as Rey and go talk to Kenton ;)

My favorite costumes that I've seen so far. Our friends, the Theodores, dressed their twins up as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump! They looked awesome!

After all the candy was gone, several of the boys had some pretty massive light saber fights in the church parking lot. My boys and Bennett German and Cooper Kruize were going at it! It was cute.

My awkward church bathroom selfie- I hate taking pictures of myself but wanted to show my costume ;)

Levi was exhausted after getting home from the party. He was totally out and everyone was moving his arms and making his mouth talk, ha.

One last awkward selfie. :)

We went out in the back of our apartments to take a few pictures of the boys in their costumes. Shaddie had been talking about being a stormtrooper for months- this was the highlight of his life. He was so proud to be with the big boys.

Last week it got down to 65 degrees so we had to join all the rest of the Texans with our sweatshirts. :) Too bad it's back to sweaty 85 degrees again. But my AZ self loves this weather!!!

This past week Shad (who is the craziest) ran off the bed and hit 3 of his bottom teeth, They were bleeding pretty bad and he was hurting so I took him into the dentist. They took xrays and it looks like he damaged the bones around each tooth and they are loose. Darn!! So we are waiting 2 weeks to see what they do, he's only eating soft foods and using ibuprofen so they can hopefully rest and heal. But time will tell if he'll lose them or not. He's gotten pretty good at putting his food in the back of his mouth to chew with only his back teeth- he's pretty proud of himself. It's funny- he might just be the first of my kids to lose a tooth! Ty and Levi will be so jealous. :)

Can't ever get a normal picture of this kid!

Hello picture retakes!!

Shad literally fell asleep like this in the Target cart. His nose was all smooshed when I woke him up. Out of all of the ways my kids have fallen asleep in carts over the years, this one is the winner.

We went to a health fair at the local hospital where TJ's work had a booth at. The boys brought home a ton of worthless trinkets pens, stress-balls and the like. They thought it was awesome.

This Great Dane therapy dog was huge!!! It was taller than Levi! Benson loved him and the dog like Benson (well, his sucker really).

This baby turned 10 months!!! He finally has 2 little teeth, has figured out the proper way to crawl, loves baths and water and splashing and is starting to stand on his own!

Shad likes to help Bens by holding him by his neck with both hands. Don't mind the poofy hair- he needed a haircut super bad!

TJ was out of town in California for a week for a work conference. That meant we were flying solo with a lot of late nights at the ball field. But we did it! Ty had batting practice and he felt so grown up. I'm actually amazed at how much he's improved in just one season. he now wants to play baseball again in the spring, he likes it that much now. It's neat to see his confidence skyrocket since he really struggled at the beginning of the season. He also had an awesome coach.

We read a Halloween book to Levi's class and took spooky string cheese.

Levi's cute little bat :)

Breast cancer awareness day at school. I had to go out and buy a few things since we literally had nothing pink in our entire house!

Jordan made it to Australia!! And her and her companion look a lot alike! Her emails are amazing and she's doing so well. I'm so proud of her!!
Herer's few excerpts from her letters. I've been so touched by them.

"Australia is amazing and I have never been happier to be somewhere. You can not deny the power of the holy ghost as a missionary. I know I have only been here for a week, but I am, determined to find those people that I promised in the pre-mortal existence. I will find them, with the Lord's help. I will find, teach, and bring "my people" unto Christ. I love you all so so much and Pacific Pines, HERE I COME!!"

"TARA!! Just wanted to send a quick note saying thank you so much for the blessing you are to me. You have helped me with more than you know. You are such an amazing mom, missionary, sister, daughter, and all around person and I strive to be like you more and more each day. Seriously!! i find myself thinking sometimes" what would Tara do?" ahha. Your letters make me so happy. It's been the longest, fastest, hardest, best 2 weeks of my life. I have grown spiritually, mentally and i hope not too much physically. ahaha I never knew how AWESOME the gospel can be. like seriously, dressing up every single day  and reading a book?? But like the feeling you get out of a lesson that the spirit completely taught, or when an "investigator" says yes to baptism, THAT'S why we are out here. I love you so much and you are such an example to me!! "
